Text Types

This page shows options for how the data in the text entry line will be handled by Total Launcher:

• Plain text - Static: If selected, it is user-entered text placed in the 'Text' box above it.
• Version - Variable: current version number of the object (such as an app).
• Page label - Static: user entered name assigned to the current page. (Pinch > Edit ON > New page)
• Date/Time - Variable: current system date and time (defaults to MMMM d, yyyy format. When this option is selected, an Option icon will show. Tap there to modify the default. For user-altered variations, see here and scroll to “Standard date and time format strings”.
• Next calendar event - Variable: time and title for the next scheduled system alarm.
• Next event - Variable: time and title of the next upcoming calendar event.
• Ongoing event - Variable: time and title for the next recurring active calendar event.
• Location - Variable: current geographical location data at 4 levels in the format: View Code Definitions.
  L1: State/Province (e.g. Texas)
  L2: County/District (e.g. Travis)
  L3: Township/City (e.g. Austin)
  L4: Neighborhood (e.g. Hyde Park)
• Unread Gmails - Variable: total count of unread messages in the connected Gmail account.
• Notifications - Variable: number of active total notifications. If the object has a gesture assigned to it (tap, swipe, launching an app), it shows the number of notifications for that app.
• Notification ticker text - Variable: scrolling text content from the most recent notification.

DEVICE SETTINGS

• Battery level (%) - Variable: device's remaining battery charge as a percentage.
• Battery status - Variable: device's current power state (e.g., Charging, Discharging, Full).
• Battery temperature - Variable: device's current temperature of the battery.
• CPU usage - Variable: device's current percentage of CPU resources in use, refreshed every second. (removed in a late v3 as postulated here. From a post on Telegram's Official Total Launcher group: I think if @ChYK would tell us (and I wish he would) we would hear that it's Android and not the TL app that has taken away the CPU Usage variable. In recent updates (Android 14 through 16), Google has made a major change to how phone security works. They have essentially locked the doors to the system files that show how hard the CPU is working. Apps could listen to CPU spikes to figure out what a user was doing in other apps (like typing a password). Even constantly checking the CPU usage actually uses a lot of battery and I guess Google wants to stop apps from pinging the system every second. ​ Because Google blocked access to these stats, TL, and I assume, almost all other 3rd-party apps will no longer see the data. Even the Show CPU Usage toggle in the hidden Developer Options has been removed or restricted on many newer devices. So to prevent it from appearing to be a bug, ChYK removed the variable because it would only show 0% on modern phones, which looks like a bug.)
• RAM usage - Variable: device's current percentage of system memory in use, refreshed every second.
• Available RAM (MB) - Variable: device's amount of free system memory in megabytes.
• Available RAM (GB) - Variable: device's amount of free system memory in gigabytes.
• Internal storage usage - Variable: device's percentage of used internal storage space, monitored every 10 seconds.
• Available internal storage (MB) - Variable: device's amount of free internal storage in megabytes, monitored every 10 seconds.
• Available internal storage (GB) - Variable: device's amount of free internal storage in gigabytes, monitored every 10 seconds.
• External storage usage - Variable: device's percentage of used external storage space monitored every 10 seconds, although Android no longer differentiates between internal and external storage in its newer versions.
• Available external storage (MB) - Variable: device's amount of free external storage in megabytes, monitored every 10 seconds.
• Available external storage (GB) - Variable: device's amount of free external storage in gigabytes, monitored every 10 seconds.
• SD card usage - Variable: percentage of used space on the device's SD card, monitored every 10 seconds.
• Available SD card (MB) - Variable: amount of free space on the device's SD card in megabytes, monitored every 10 seconds.
• Available SD card (GB) - Variable: amount of free space on the device's SD card in gigabytes, monitored every 10 seconds.
• Wifi Name - Variable: network name of the currently connected Wi-Fi network.

SYSTEM SETTINGS

• Mobile data - Variable: Displays the current status of the mobile data connection (On or Off)
• Wifi - Variable: current status of the Wi-Fi connection (On/Off).
• Wifi hotspot - Variable: current status of the Wi-Fi hotspot (On/Off).
• Bluetooth - Variable: current status of the Bluetooth adapter (On/Off).
• Ringer mode - Variable: current ringer state (e.g., On, Vibrate, Silent).
• GPS - Variable: status of the GPS location service (On, Off).
• Screen brightness - Variable: current screen brightness level (Manual, Auto).
• Do not disturb - Variable: status of the Do Not Disturb mode (On, Off).

WEATHER BY OPENWEATHERMAP.ORG

• Temperature¹⁾ - Variable: current weather temperature from OpenWeatherMap based on GPS locations. All temperature variables can be set to either °F or °C (default) in the Main menu > Launcher Options > Behavior > Use US Customary Units (toggle). See footnote for dynamic images and static locations.
• Temperature(min) - Variable: the day's minimum forecasted temperature for the current location.
• Temperature(max) - Variable: the day's maximum forecasted temperature for the current location.
• Humidity - Variable: current relative humidity shown as a percentage.
• Wind from - Variable: direction from which the wind is blowing using N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW.
• Wind speed - Variable: current wind velocity shown as miles/hour or meters/second.
• Weather description - Variable: predominantly a one-word statement of the current weather condition (e.g., “Clear”, “Rain”).

• Variable - Variable: for user input of a dynamic variable to receive data from external apps, such as Tasker, MacroDroid, or other sources. See here for more information on using variables.
